Important Medication Notice – Medications Supplied on the Trail

Participants on approved, prescribed medications while in Anasazi’s program should request a 60-day supply.  This will ensure there is enough medication while at Anasazi, including for any possible extension.  If an initial 60-day supply is not permitted by insurance, or if refills are needed to accommodate a longer stay, the refill supply should be sent to Anasazi’s office (referencing the participant’s name.)  Anasazi’s nurse will then package the medications for the trail.  All leftover medications will be provided to you at discharge.

Some medications are NOT permitted on the trail for safety reasons.  These include the following:

• Antipsychotics
• Acne medications
• Atypical antipsychotics
• Mood stabilizers
• Anti-anxiety agents
• Anti-panic agents
• Sleeping pills
• Seizure medications
• Acne medications
• Medications that require monitoring or blood work
• Medications that may cause:
  • Drowsiness
  • Lack of coordination
  • Dehydration
  • Sun sensitivity
    

Medications are stored in a double-locked box, as accommodations on the trail are limited:

• Any medication that needs to be stored in temperatures less than 78 degrees Fahrenheit will not be stable
• Medications required to be taken more than two times a day (other than as-needed inhalers) cannot be accommodated, as staff cannot unpack to retrieve medications while hiking
• Groups on the trail may not reach water at specific times, and all medications should be taken with at least one cup of water.

If you have questions about the use of medication on the trail, please speak with the Nursing Director.  Other medications not accepted are multivitamins, herbal products, and any other medication that may be eliminated without causing adverse effects.
